Spinach

Buying

Consider choosing frozen spinach for use in cooking or smoothies.

Storing

Store in a hard plastic container in the fridge to stop it getting squashed. Wash fresh spinach directly before use.

Freezing

Spinach is suitable for freezing once it has been blanched in boiling water for 30 seconds.

It will last for about 8 months in the freezer.

Using up

A handful of spinach can be added last minute to loads of different dishes. It’s a great way to get in some extra greens. Spinach pairs well with eggs, cream, Parmesan cheese, Feta cheese, Ricotta cheese, pesto and nutmeg.

Good to know

Despite what you see on Popeye, spinach has about the same amount of iron as most green, leafy vegetables.
