Food waste Research

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has commissioned a food waste related project entitled: Reducing Commercial Food Waste in Ireland.

This work was funded under the EPA Research Progamme and was carried out by the Clean Technology Centre, based in Cork Institute of Technology.

This project aimed to provide this key information in terms of commercial food waste generation in Ireland, and examined individual sectors and food waste types, along with potential best practices, and innovative solutions, for its reduction. Work was done with both individual companies and sectoral organisations within the identified sub-sectors in Ireland. Researchers examined the reasons behind commercial food waste and before trialling and assessing interventions to prevent and reduce commercial food waste amounts. The full research report and project outputs will be available soon. To be notified of publication, email sarah.broderick@ctc-cork.ie.
